Will
my insurance cover my child's visit? |
| . |
Your insurance
is a contract between you and your insurance
company. We are not a party to that
contract. If you have questions regarding
coverage please contact your insurance
company. If you choose, we can assist
you in finding your answer. We are here
to help you in any way possible. |
|
| |
Do
I have co-pay at the time of service? |
| . |
This will
depend on the type of insurance you
carry. We should be able to tell you
by the end of your first appointment. |
|
| |
How
long is each physical/occupational therapy
visit? |
| . |
Most appointments
will last 45 to 60 minutes, depending
on your child's condition and our therapist's
prescription. |
|
| |
How
often will my child have to come to
therapy? |
| . |
The therapist
will be able to tell you after your
first appointment. |
|
| |
What
do I need to bring to my physical therapy
appointment? |
| . |
1. Health
insurance card
2. Prescription from your physician
3. Depending on the diagnosis,loose
fitting clothes or shorts and a t-shirt.
4. A compiled list of your questions
for the therapist if you have any.
5. Current X-ray or MRI report if available,
list of all current medications. |
|
| |
Can
the parent/guardian participate/observe
in the session? |
| . |
We encourage
the parent/guardian to engage in the
therapy session. Often, this is when
the parent learns ways to carry over
the treatment in the home. |
|
| |
Can
you bring other children to the appointment? |
| . |
You may
bring other siblings, but please provide
something to occupy their time. They
are occasionally allowed in the session
with the parent/guardian, but can be
a distraction. |
|
| |
What
can I expect from therapy? |
| . |
Once your
child's initial evaluation is complete,
your therapist will discuss goals for
therapy and the regimen necessary to
achieve them. Your therapist will then
develop a treatment plan that will include
the number of sessions your child may
require for therapy. As therapy progresses,
you will be given a Home Exercise Program
(a number of exercises for your child
to do at home in addition to those done
in each session). For children to achieve
and maintain maximum recovery in an
optimal time, the prescribed Home Exercise
Program must be followed. |
|
| |
When
do I schedule therapy appointments? |
| . |
You can
contact our office at (919) 363-5000.
If your doctor’s office contacts
us, we will call you to schedule your
child's appointment. Emergency/next
day appointments are always available.
To make your child's initial registration
process faster, you can download our
forms,
fill them out, and bring them with you
on your first visit. |
|
| |
What
if I need to cancel my appointment? |
| . |
We require
24 hours notice of appointment cancellation.
If no prior cancellation is made, or
cancellation occurs with less than 24
hour notice (with the exception of illness/emergenceies)
on three seperate occassions, a $25.00
fee will be assessed at the next visit.
We have this policy because each appointment
slot has value. But we don’t charge
you the value of the slot, only the
$25. It doesn’t make us money,
we still lose. But it is a deterrent
which helps to minimize last minute
changes. Advance notice allows us time
to give it to someone who really needs
it. Believe us, there are children who
need it desperately. Click here to view
or download our
cancellation
policy. |
|
| |
What
if I am late for an appointment? |
| . |
It is
necessary to show for appointment on
time. If you are 15 min or more late,
your appointment may be rescheduled.
If we allow a patient in for treatment
later than 15 minutes from the appointed
time, it will overlap and compromise
the care of another patient. We do not
allow this. |
|
| |
What
does a Speech therapist do? |
| . |
A speech
therapist focuses on communication skills
that not only look at the child's ability
to understand and communicate ideas,
but also looks at the actual use of
speech sounds in words. Other factors
in which the pediatric speech therapists
may focus include feeding and breathing
manners and vocal quality. Speech therapists
can act as a resource for those children
who may use types of communication other
than voice. These include communication
boards and sign language. |

How
Does Pediatric Physical Therapy Help? |
| . |
Through
pediatric physical therapy, a child
can gain or regain functional independence.
For some children, physical therapy
is needed for improving joint range
of motion and or strength, in order
to regain previous functioning. For
many children physical therapy involves
working on developmental skills such
as rolling, sitting, creeping, crawling
or walking. These skills are essential
for any child to improve his or her
environment. A key to pediatric therapy
is having active involvement of the
family and/or caregiver in order to
reach desired outcomes. |
|
| |
How
Does Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Help? |
| . |
Pediatric
occupational therapy aids children in
taking care of themselves. One of the
most important aspects of occupational
therapy is identifying the child's ability
to understand input from movement, vision,
hearing, touch and smell.Therapy may
include regular treatment sessions as
well as identifying the need for special
tools such as feeding equipment, splints,
special seats and wheel chairs. |
